PM Modi Security Scare Latest Updates: A security scare in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) triggered alarm ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled appearance at the Global Fintech Fest on Tuesday (September 08).
Two men were initially reported to have been detained near the venue after one allegedly posed as a Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) official and another was found carrying a gun. However, Mumbai Police later clarified that the incident took place at Jio World Plaza in BKC on Monday (September 07) , and had no connection with PM Modi’s scheduled event.
What Happened in BKC?
According to police, the suspects allegedly tried to enter Jio World Plaza after presenting a suspicious government identity card. Security personnel stopped them, following which the men reportedly argued with the guards and forced their way inside. One of them was carrying a firearm.
Police subsequently registered a case at BKC Police Station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to impersonation of a public servant and unlawful entry while armed. The weapon has reportedly been found to be licensed, although investigators are examining the circumstances in which it was being carried.
Fake PMO Identity Card Under Scanner
One of the suspects, identified in initial reports as 24-year-old Rohan Parekh, allegedly claimed to be connected to the PMO and possessed a fake PMO identity card. Earlier police reports had said that he was accompanied by a man described as his bodyguard, who was carrying the firearm. The initial account led to heightened concern because the incident came just hours before PM Modi was due to attend an event at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in the same BKC area.
The Mumbai Crime Branch has taken over the investigation Investigators are examining the suspects’ mobile phones, identity documents and other belongings to establish why they entered the premises and what they intended to do.

Police Rule Out Link to PM Modi Event
The most important update is that authorities have not found a connection between the incident and PM Modi’s programme. The Prime Minister was scheduled to inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest 2026 at NMACC in BKC on September 8.
The clarification means the incident should not currently be described as an attempted attack or direct breach of the Prime Minister’s security. The investigation is still underway, and police are trying to establish the motive behind the alleged impersonation and forced entry.
Why the Incident Triggered Alarm
The timing nevertheless raised immediate security concerns. BKC was under heightened security arrangements because of the Prime Minister’s visit. The discovery of a fake government identity card and a firearm in the same high-security business district naturally prompted additional scrutiny.
For now, however, police are treating the case as an impersonation and unlawful-entry investigation, rather than an attack linked to the Prime Minister. The probe will determine how the suspects obtained the identity documents, why they attempted to enter the premises and whether anyone else was involved.
