In a major operational policy shift, India’s premier food ordering platform Zomato has officially implemented a strict “zero-tolerance” policy regarding analogue dairy products across its global merchant ecosystem.
Effective immediately, any restaurant listing synthetic or non-dairy substitutes disguised as traditional milk items will face automatic menu purges and potential platform bans.
Analogue vs. Real Dairy Characteristics├── Real Dairy: Uses natural milk fats and proteins; zero synthetic oils.
└── Analogue Dairy: Replaces milk solids with palm oil, hydrogenated fats, starches, and emulsifiers.
Analogue dairy products are engineered by replacing natural milk fats with cheap vegetable oils, industrial starches, and chemical emulsifiers to mimic the melting points and textures of genuine cheese, butter, and paneer.

While not inherently toxic, unlabelled analogue products misinform consumers seeking genuine dairy nutrients, posing health risks related to hidden hydrogenated fats and unlisted allergens.

Zomato Mandates and Delisting Framework for Merchant Partners
Zomato CEO Aditya Mangla announced that the platform’s decision goes beyond current baseline rules set by food safety authorities, opting to ban even disclosed analogue dishes to uphold absolute culinary transparency.
- Mandatory Supplier Audits: Restaurant partners are required to audit all raw ingredient packaging to verify that zero vegetable-fat substitutes are present in items labeled as cheese, paneer, cream, or milk-based desserts.
- Immediate Delisting: Dishes found containing synthetic milk elements will be purged instantly from digital menus.
- Permanent Network Exclusions: Repeat offenders faces permanent blacklisting from the Zomato delivery network.
