NEW DELHI: In a massive, multi-pronged effort amid CJP Protest to salvage the integrity of India’s examination system and quell the nationwide youth protests, the central government has initiated a sweeping crackdown. On Saturday, July 25, 2026, the Union Cabinet officially approved a stringent new draft bill explicitly designed to combat organized paper leaks and educational fraud.
The Anti-Paper Leak Bill and NTA Purge Amid CJP Protests
The newly approved draft legislation aims to introduce much harsher, non-bailable criminal penalties for any individuals, printing presses, or coaching centers found guilty of compromising national or state-level examinations. Government sources indicate that the bill proposes severe financial asset seizures and life imprisonment for the masterminds of organized syndicates. The draft is expected to be tabled in Parliament immediately, bypassing standard committee reviews due to the ongoing crisis.
Simultaneously, the beleaguered National Testing Agency (NTA) has initiated a massive internal purge. Following preliminary findings from an ongoing high-level probe into the NEET-UG irregularities, the NTA has officially terminated the employment of 47 officials. These dismissals target personnel across various administrative and logistical departments who were directly involved in the secure transport and digital handling of the compromised question papers.

Arrest of Maharashtra TET Mastermind
As the central government cleans house, state police forces are also making significant breakthroughs. In a major victory for law enforcement, the alleged mastermind behind the devastating Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) paper leak has finally been captured.
Bijendra Gupta, a former coaching class teacher who had been evading authorities for weeks by living under a false identity, was tracked down and arrested in Bihar on Saturday morning. The operation was spearheaded by the Thane City Police. Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Pawan Bansod confirmed the arrest, stating that a transit remand will be secured to bring Gupta back to Maharashtra to face the courts.
Gupta’s syndicate had allegedly leaked the Maharashtra TET paper by conspiring with employees of an Agra-based printing press, who smuggled copies of the highly confidential exam hidden inside their shoe insoles. The massive leak left the futures of nearly six lakh teaching aspirants in limbo. The successful capture of Gupta marks a critical step forward in dismantling the deeply entrenched, inter-state examination mafias operating across the country.
Meanwhile, government is yet to respond to demands of the youth as CJP Protests have intensified saying that they will accept nothing short of Union Minister Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.
