NEW DELHI: After a hard fought battle in the national capital for over a month and capturing the attention of the entire country, the massive youth-led agitation organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), often dubbed as CJP Protest has officially come to an end. The CJP formally called off its intense 36-day protest at Jantar Mantar on Monday, July 27, 2026.
The decision to end the sit-in follows a series of major political concessions from the government, most notably the high-profile resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and concrete assurances regarding comprehensive examination reforms. Prominent climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk has also concluded his grueling 26-day indefinite hunger strike.
Both Wangchuk and CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke are currently recuperating from the severe physical toll of the demonstrations. In a gesture of de-escalation, reports suggest that the Delhi Police is likely to withdraw all First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against the peaceful protesters.
Fresh Outrage Over Regional Detentions After CJP Protest Concludes
However, the peaceful conclusion of the Jantar Mantar sit-in has been severely overshadowed by a fresh wave of controversy and fear among the student organizers. CJP spokesperson Saurav Das released a scathing statement expressing grave concern over multiple verified reports that students and protesters are being systematically targeted, detained, or arrested in the states of Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar.
The CJP leadership publicly reminded the central government—specifically pointing to Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh—of their explicit, on-the-record assurances that no punitive, legal, or retaliatory actions would be taken against students who participated in the peaceful demonstrations. The organization warned that any betrayal of this trust could instantly reignite the protests on a much larger, national scale.

Official Probe Confirms Pellet Gun Fire
Adding significant fuel to the public outrage, an ongoing official probe into the violent clashes that occurred on July 20 has confirmed severe instances of police excesses. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) verified reports that personnel from the Rapid Action Force (RAF) allegedly fired specialized pellet rounds during the chaotic confrontation as students attempted their march to Parliament. According to the findings, the pellets struck at least two unarmed youth protesters.
The unrest has also flared up violently outside the capital region. During the ‘Bihar Bandh‘—a statewide strike called by regional student unions in solidarity with the CJP—violent clashes erupted with local police forces. Medical authorities confirmed that three individuals suffered severe bullet injuries during the chaotic skirmishes in Patna, highlighting the deep, lingering volatility of the situation despite the official end of the Delhi protests.
